If you’re trying to relax and enjoy your RV trip, the last thing you want is to have to deal with an infestation. Droppings, nests, chewed wires, bad smells and more are all signs that pests have made a home in your camper. If you’re interested in learning more about what kinds of strategies you can employ to help keep pests out of your RV, check out this guide from 47 West Trailers.

Cleaning

There are many different kinds of pests that can infest your RV, but they’re all attracted to one thing: an easy food source. Spills and crumbs left unremoved will create food smells and give pests the impressions that your RV is a good place to live. That’s why you should wipe up any spills and promptly clean up any crumbs whenever possible. Remove all traces of food from your RV and keep dry goods in airtight containers.

Rodents

Small rodents like rats and mice can infiltrate your RV through small holes in the frame. While traps and poison are effective at getting rid of mice, the best thing to do is to block off the holes so that they can’t enter your camper in the first place. Routinely inspect your RV for holes in the frame, and promptly cover them up whenever and wherever you find them.

Insects

Different insects require different approaches. To get rid of roaches, use bait alongside insecticides. Of course, these substances are often toxic to people and pets as well as insects, so be cautious when applying them. If your RV becomes infested with ants, spray soapy water over whichever surface they’re crawling on and wipe it down, or vacuum them up so that they can be disposed of somewhere far away. Bees and wasps are tricky since they can sting you and they tend to make nests outside. You may need to hire a pest-control specialist to deal with them.
