In 1996, Peter Liegl formed Forest River. The company started off with a broad product line that included tent campers, travel trailers, fifth wheels and park models.

These RVs quickly became popular and their success allowed Forest River to expand their product line to include other campers, like motorhomes.

As the company grew, it was able to venture out into new industries and launch new products. This included specialty vehicle markets and the marine industry.

With all of this continued growth, Forest River eventually became able to acquire other companies. In 2005, Forest River joined one of the largest holding companies in the world - Berkshire Hathaway.
